Why this recipe works!
If you asked me what my favorite cookie in the whole wide world is, I would not hesitate for even one second.
There are chocolate chip cookies, and then there is everything else, cookie-wise (although my grandma’s molasses cookies are a close second).
So me being me, I am constantly messing around with a chocolate chip cookie recipe (looking at you, Snack Attack Chocolate Chip Cookies!) to see how many ways I can come up with making my favorites, and that is how this recipe for chocolate chip cookies with cinnamon was born.
The basic chocolate chip cookie recipe is pretty much the same, but there is some cinnamon swirled into the dough, and the cookies are dusted with cinnamon sugar right before you pop them into the oven.
And because of those two small but powerful things, they basically taste like Christmas in cookie form. Whether you are going to a cookie swap or needing a plate of deliciousness for a party, these do pretty much taste like heaven in cookie form.
They are also great for no reason at all. I like mine with a cup of fresh mint tea, personally.

- Chocolate Chips: We like regular sized semi-sweet chips for this recipe, but you can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate or even mini chips.

Recipe FAQs
Nope, but here’s a good trick: Fill a big mug with hot water, dump it out, and turn it upside down over the butter. Give it about ten minutes and it should be soft enough!
You can! I like the regular size, but if you want to use chocolate chunks or mini chocolate chips, you be you!
Yep! They will stay fresh for at least 2-3 days – cover them up tightly.

Equipment we used for this recipe
These are some of my favorite kitchen tools! These are Amazon affiliate links, which means I get a little something if you buy through my links at no extra cost to you. (Which helps pay for all that bacon I keep buying! 😄) And I only share things I use and love. I’m so grateful for your support!
- Measuring Cup: We love these angled cups that show the measurements on both the inside and outside of the cup.
- Measuring Spoons: These handy magnetic spoons are not on a ring, so you can just pick the one you need.
- Mixing Bowls: We love the side handle on these bowls…it makes for steadier mixing.
- Fish Spatula: It’s not just for dish (although we love it for Julia Child’s Filet of Sole)…it’s thin enough to scoot under anything…including these heavenly cookies.
- Cookie Sheet: We’ve tried about 574,837 cookie sheets over the years and this one is our fave!
- Cookie Scoop: This handy scoop picks up the perfect amount of dough and has a little bar that scoots it out.
- Silpat: Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, will stick to this silicone mat.
- KitchenAid Mixer: This workhorse of a mixer is spendy, but it is simply the best of the best, and will last for years.
- Cooling Rack: The perfect basic rack for letting those cookies cool off until it is time for the first bite!
And so, let the cookie baking begin!

Ooohhh yummy! I’m with you on spicing things up a tad! These sound wonderful! My “secret” ingredient in chocolate chip cookies is toffee chips. Looking forward to trying these very soon. Perhaps for the youngest teen daughter’s birthday bash. She will be 16 and has requested red velvet cheesecake as her “cake” since she was 2. We also always have other sweets and snacks on hand. These cookies are going to be there for the party on Dec 2nd because all us December babies deserve cookies on their birthday as well as their cake of choice, wouldn’t you agree? :)

Red velvet cheesecake!! Her mama has raised her up right!! And absolutely yes for us December babies. Happy sweet sixteen to your baby girl!
