This easy recipe for pasta with creamy spinach hummus sauce takes your favorite dip and transforms it into a rich sauce without a drop of cream. Dinner magic!
I have this strange relationship with chick peas, in that I really, really don’t like them…except when they are made into hummus, in which case I can’t get enough of them. As a result, not only do I have my beloved recipe for five minute hummus on this site…
…but I also have recipes for hummus soup (trust me), a mash-up dip that I call Guaca-Hummus, and everything from sweet potato hummus to avocado hummus to red pepper hummus. I am hummus-obsessed. So it was only a matter of time before I needed to turn it into a pasta sauce, and guess what?
Hummus sauce on pasta is a scrumptious miracle, because it coats your pasta in a creamy, dreamy, flavor-iffic sauce without one drop of cream. And speaking of dreamy….
You didn’t think I was done with wedding pictures yet, did you? These are the dreamy groomsmen and ring bearer with the handsome groom. They were told to look suave and serious, and while they spent the rest of the evening still looking suave, this was the only and only second where they looked serious. A billion thanks again to Cat and Scott at Dove Photography for this swoon-worthy shot.
Anyway, back at the hummus sauce. I like to cook up a batch of pasta – any kind will do but I am partial to short pasta in this recipe – and I dump a handful of baby spinach in the pasta water during the last minute of cooking, because we need to get our veggies in there, and it adds a lovely fresh zing to this pasta.
When the pasta is done, add in the hummus (store-bought hummus is fine, but I promise you can make your own in 5 minutes – click here for that recipe!) along with some lemon juice and a smidge of butter and parmesan cheese. Drizzle in a little of the pasta water that you have cleverly saved, mix it all up together and voila!
Dreamy, creamy pasta with creamy spinach hummus sauce. I’ll never give up my favorite tomato sauce recipe, but this one? It’s definitely an extremely close second. Do you have any other ideas for things I can do with hummus? Tell me in the comments!

Those guys!! Love that pic! And this pasta sounds heavenly! I could probably eat pasta every day and not get tired of it. And here you are, mashing up supper time with snack time and making pasta even more appealing! I like my hummus topped with a generous handful of toasted pine nuts so those will be going here as well and that will be my little spin on your already fabulous recipe. Happy Friday, Kate!
