When you have a craving for chili but don’t have the time, here comes this easy weeknight turkey chili recipe to the rescue! Warm and wonderful and ready in a half hour – how delicious is that?
I’ve had all kinds of chili cravings lately, maybe because we are STILL SEEING SNOWFLAKES here in the springtime month of April. And as a result, I come home wanting a bowl of warm spiciness to take the chill off, but making a pot of traditional chili on weeknights takes more time and organization than I have…except for this weeknight turkey chili.
This particular version uses ground turkey instead of beef, and simmers up with tomatoes and onion and a lovely conglomeration of spices in just about 30 minutes. And 30 minutes on a chilly, busy weeknight I can definitely handle. Let’s make it!
Because as much as I love cooking, and you know I do, there are just Those Days. You know Those Days, right? When I wish I could magically regain my energy…and speaking of magical energy, have you guys tried the Powerpuff Yourself thing yet?
If you have or have had a little one in your lives anytime since 1995 (yes, 1995, I looked it up) you have probably clocked some time discussing the Powerpuff Girls…and now there is a website where you can Powerpuff yourself. So I did.
There I am with my red hair and my bullet journal. And then I realized that I could Powerpuff myself IN MY KITCHEN.
Neither of which gave me any extra energy with which to make regular chili on a weeknight, but it was fun!
Meanwhile back at the chili, you want a package of ground turkey, some chicken broth, some diced canned tomatoes, a sweet onion and a whole heap of spices. You’re going to saute the onion with the spices, and then add the turkey and then the tomatoes and broth. Simmer the whole thing up for about 25 minutes, and then you get to sit down to a heaping bowl of THIS.
I topped mine with cheeeeeeeeese, but sour cream, guacamole, chopped scallions or any of the other delectable things that go on top of chili would be great too. And so take THAT, Thursday night – chili for everyone!

I have my last batch of chili sitting in freezer and I am thinking I would probably be eating it tomorrow as it’s supposed to snow here! And talking of Powerpuff girls- I used to love watching those as a kid!
Enough with the snow already! Glad you have chili at the ready. :)

Regardless of the weather, I could eat chili every week! So good for you, too, when you use ground turkey instead of beef. I think (fingers crossed) that we are done with the snow and hopefully onto nicer weather. Hope so, anyway! Love your recipe. Cinnamon is a lovely touch. Pinning, of course :)
Fingers crossed on this end too – enough with the snow! It was 80 here yesterday, so hopefully we have crossed over to the warm side for good.

I always crave chili, especially when the weather is cold! My husband can only eat it once or twice a year though, which just means more for me! I’m loving this easy version, Kate!
This more mild version might expand your husband’s chili-eating – you never know! :)
