    • Steak and Cherry Tomato Skewers

Why we love this recipe ❤️

Just in case you are looking around for a quick and easy recipe for the grill, I bring you these easy, scrumptious steak and cherry tomato skewers.

The juicy cubes of steak are dusted with an easy spice mixture that adds just the right amount of spicy zing, and the cherry tomatoes bring a hint of veggie sweetness.

And if that wasn’t delicious enough, this barbecue treat cooks up in just minutes. With all due respect to hamburgers and hot dogs, this might be my favorite grill supper. 😍

    Grilling with skewers 🍡

The first thing you need is skewers.  I do have metal skewers hanging around my house somewhere, but I highly recommend getting yourself a pack of bamboo skewers.  They are the perfect size, they are disposable, and they cool down a LOT faster than the metal ones, so if your lucky eaters want to eat the steak and tomatoes right off the skewers they can.

    Bamboo skewers.

You will want to soak the skewers in water before you start putting the steak and tomatoes on them – this way they will not catch fire on the grill. Which of course would make your barbecue that much more exciting, but still.  Soak those skewers!

    Ingredients you need 🥩

Ingredients needed to make steak skewers.

    Ingredient notes and substitutions 🥩

    • Steak: You want a cut of steak that will cook quickly on the grill and still be tender. We recommend a filet tenderloin or a strip steak – both of them are easy to cut into cubes and cook up quickly with a lovely tender result!
    • Spices: This combo of spices will give a mild zing to your steak. If you want things hotter, you can add a teaspoon of chili powder to the mix. 🔥
    • Cherry tomatoes: Cherry tomatoes are the perfect size and shape for these skewers. If you want to add other veggies, we recommend chunks of zucchini or yellow squash, slices of pepper, mushrooms…you can even use pineapple chunks for a hint of sweetness!

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities and nutritional information.

How to make this recipe 👩🏻‍🍳

STEP 1: If you are using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 15 minutes. Heat the grill to high.

Steak cut into cubes in a bowl.

STEP 2: Cut your steak into 1 inch cubes.

Steak cubes coated with spice rub in a bowl.

STEP 3: Mix all the spices together and put them in a bowl with the steak cubes. Stir until the cubes are coated with spices.

Steak skewers brushed with canola oil.

STEP 4: Thread the skewers with steak cubes alternated with cherry tomatoes and brush with a little oil.

    Steak skewers on the grill.

STEP 5: Grill for 3-4 minutes total for medium rare, turning them over once, and they are ready to serve!

PRO TIP: If you have used metal skewers, it’s best to remove the steak and tomatoes first before serving, as it takes metal skewers a while to cool down. If you have used wooden skewers you can serve them as is. (In my house we love chomping this deliciousness right off the wooden skewers!)

    Recipe FAQs

How many skewers should I serve per person?

We find that two to three skewers per person is the right amount, depending on what else you are serving up alongside them (ideas below!)

Can I leave the spices out?

You can, and you can also cut them down for a gentler flavor, or add a teaspoon of chili powder for a sassier flavor. If you don’t use these spices we do recommend a sprinkle of salt and pepper.

    Can I add more vegetables?

Heck yes! Mushrooms, chunks of zucchini and slices of bell pepper are all great additions.

Can these be made ahead of time?

They can, all the way up to the grilling. Keep your uncooked skewers in the fridge until grilling time.

    Have a question that I didn’t cover?

Pop your question in the Comments section below the recipe card and I will answer pronto!

What to serve with this recipe 🍽️

Since the grill is fired up anyway, we love some grilled flatbread with these skewers. An easy coconut rice pilaf makes a perfect bed for the steak and tomatoes, or if you want to be extra summery, serve up a watermelon burrata salad on the side. Or go the complete opposite direction with some cheese fries!
