Easy Salt and Pepper Crackers

This speedy recipe for easy salt and pepper crackers makes 60 of the most addictively delicious, crunchy crispy crackers you have ever tasted!

salt and pepper crackers

Don’t be fooled by these humble looking little crackers, because I submit to you the following data.

The Southern husband has been known to demolish an entire jar of them in one sitting.

Everyone who has tasted these babies has IMMEDIATELY asked me where I got them, and then for the recipe.

This is the one thing I religiously make every single weekend, because at this point I don’t think we could exist without having these easy salt and pepper crackers in the house.

And did I mention they were easy?  As in four ingredients, and two of them are salt and pepper…that level of easy?  Yep.  That Easy.

Here’s how you make easy salt and pepper crackers!

This all started at Wegman’s.  Every week the Southern husband would toss a carton of their version of these crackers into the shopping cart, and every week I would get a pang seeing that $5 charge on the receipt.

I love and adore Wegmans, but five bucks for a kinda small container of what I am pretty sure was the way they used up their more elderly loaves of French bread made me twitch.

But he loved them, and I love him, so finally one Sunday I bought a loaf of French bread along with his usual container of spendy crackers.

I sliced it up into super thin slices, painted the slices with some nice olive oil, sprinkled on some sea salt and pepper, and popped them in the oven until they were golden brown.

And can I just say, OH MY GOODNESS.

I got about 60 crackers out of my $2.75 loaf of French bread – about double what we got from the container.  So far, so good.

And then we did a taste test.  Maybe it was the fact that  we baked them up fresh in our own kitchen, but they are a crispy, crunchy, salt and peppery taste sensation.

We love them with cheese and deviled ham spread and my mama’s potted cheese, but honestly?  We also just love eating them by the handful.

So don’t let the easiness of this recipe fool you – these babies are ADDICTIVE.  And I apologize in advance for ruining all other crackers in the world for you.  #sorrynotsorry

These look great. I’ve made my own pita chips for the same reason – too expensive & easy to make. I think these would be good with a little garlic powder added too.

I can’t wait to try these as I am with you about the cost of these little delicious devils. Question though – do you put olive oil, salt & pepper on both sides?

Hi Katie! I only do one side with the olive oil salt and pepper, then into the oven they go. It ends up being just the right amount of seasoning. Happy cracker making! ?
