- Ham and Brie Sandwich
Why we love this recipe 🥰
Ladies and gentlemen, sometimes we just don’t have it in ourselves to make dinner. I love my kitchen as much as the next girl, but at the end of a long day now and then I and look at the stove and I just…can’t…do it.
That’s when it is handy to have a nice pile of sandwich recipes in your back pocket. Recipes that involve dealing with only one large kitchen appliance, and that is the refrigerator.
Take the following out of your fridge: thin sliced ham. Really good Brie cheese (I am in love with a brie-like cheese called D’Affinios. If you can find it, give it a try…it will ruin all varieties of Brie for you for the rest of your life, but it will be worth it.)
You also need a nice crisp Granny Smith apple, some good bread (I used ciabatta bread for our sandwiches)…and here’s the kicker.
The secret ingredient. The thing that elevates this ham sandwich above all other ham sandwiches…
…JAM. Or jelly, or preserves, or even a sweet chutney. There is something about the salty ham and creamy cheese and tart apple and sweet jam that turns this from a regular sandwich to something that is worthy of Sandwich Night. (Or lunch, of course!)
It’s the fancied-up ham and cheese sandwich that dreams are made of!

Ingredient notes and substitutions 📝
- Bread: We love a sturdy sourdough or ciabatta bread for this sandwich but whatever bread you love will work fine.
- Ham: We splurge on ham from the deli counter for this, sliced as finely as they can do it. You can use regular ham or one of the flavored versions (honey ham, we love you!)
- Jam: Raspberry is our fave, but strawberry, apricot, peach…so many possibilities! And use any leftovers for Jam Cake.
- Apples: We like a tart Granny Smith to balance the sweet jam but again, any apple you have on hand will work.

Recipe FAQs 🧐
Nope! We recommend plain ham because there are so many other flavors going on, but if you are a honey ham lover (or any other kind), go for it!
You can! Or preserves, or even a sweet chutney. Whatever is in your fridge is going to work.
Jam is made of crushed fruit, sometimes with some sugar in it, and is a thick spread. Preserves are made with pieces of fruit that are mixed with a syrup. Jelly is made out of fruit juice mixed with pectin (a thickener) and has a gel-like consistency.
Brie is usually in the fancy cheese section of your supermarket. Camembert (or really any triple creme cheese) will work too.

- Cutting board: We love these Oxo cutting boards – they can go in the dishwasher and they come in all different sizes. Perfect for slicing up that creamy Brie cheese and that apple!
- Food scale: I usually just wing it when it comes to sandwich ingredients, but when I am wanting to be precise about how much is going where, this easy to use scale is perfect for getting just the right amount.
- Measuring Spoons: These handy magnetic spoons are not on a ring, so you can just pick the one you need.
Want to round our your meal? 🍽️
We love a cool glass of mint iced tea lemonade with our sandwich! And maybe some potato peel chips on the side…or if we are in a soup and sandwich mood, this pumpkin bacon soup. And for dessert, let’s have banana brownies!

Oh yum! Will be doing this as soon as I return from my current trip to Rome and transatlantic cruise. But, then, maybe i can get one made at the shipโs buffet??? ๐๐คฃ๐ Either way, this sandwich is definitely in my future. And, as the weather turns colder, I do see a grilled version heading my wayโฆ
Hi Jeanie and WOW! That sounds like an amazing trip – have the BEST time!!

I used to buy that type of chutney at the Dekalb Farmer's market in Atlanta. It's good. And your photo makes it look even better…

Thanks guys!! (I may make sandwiches for the rest of the summer — it's still in the upper 90's here in the Northeast. I'm melting!!)

"I'm always a little fearful of chutney"…no truer words spoken! It is the strangest of concoctions and yet, so delicious. Harry and Davids made a mango chutney that was out of this world. I'll give this brand a try. Love the frige pic!

I love this flavor combination. When it is less hot out, I recommend making a calzone with proscuitto, brie, apple and a bit of sage. I made it this past fall when I had WAY too many apples for apple picking and it was really tasty!
ham recipes says
Wow, that looks really yummy! I'd definitely give it a go. I have about half a pound leftover ham in the fridge. You see, I love making ham myself, I really enjoy it. So having ham in the fridge is pretty normal in our house, lol!
Marisa says
Yum! I've had grilled cheddar, ham and apple sandwiches, but I would never think to put brie on a cold sandwich. I will definitely try it!

Oh this looks so good!
I will make this, I have to make do with local products but they do have mango chutney here.
When we lived there, I always bought Major Greys Mango Chutney.
Hope you guys cool off soon..
