These peanut butter fudge treats are Rice Krispie Treats with double fudge topping, and the perfect sweet and salty snack for your sweet tooth.   Make sure you both make and hide some extras for yourself!

    fudge rice cereal bars

Yes, these ARE what you think they are. Rice Krispy Treats, topped with a layer of peanut butter fudge, topped with a layer of chocolate fudge. Oh, baby. It’s practically too much to wrap your mind around, right??

When you make these (because let’s be honest, you KNOW you are going to make these), here are a few pieces of advice.

Cut them into SMALL pieces. I cut mine into one inch squares. Eating a piece bigger than one inch could make all your teeth fall out at once. In the most delicious possible way of course! 🤓

Second, I store mine in the fridge. There is definitely enough sugar in these to keep them perfectly fine stored on the kitchen counter, but I liked the harder consistency of the cold fudge.

That’s just me, though. Fudge consistency is a very personal decision, and I leave that up to you.

ingredients you need to make these chocolate peanut butter treats!

    • Butter
    • Marshmallows
    • Puffed Rice Cereal
    • Peanut Butter
    • Vanilla
    • Powdered Sugar
    • Evaporated Milk
    • Chocolate Chips

here’s how to make these fudge covered squares!

(Scroll down for the handy complete printable recipe with nutrition info!)

Okay, these have three layers, so we make them in three simple stages. First up, the marshmallow rice cereal layer.

Melt butter over low heat in a large pot. Add marshmallows and stir it all up until the marshmallows are completely melted and take this delectable mixture off the heat.

Add some puffed rice cereal and stir until everything is mixed up well.

Spray a 13 x 9 inch pan with cooking spray and press in the rice mixture (pro tip: spray your fingers with a little cooking spray so the mixture doesn’t stick to your hands!)  Let it all cool while you go on to the next layer, which is the peanut butter fudge.

Put a little more butter and some creamy peanut butter in a bowl and microwave for two minutes on high. Stir it up and microwave for another two minutes.

Add some vanilla and powdered sugar to the glorious peanut butter mixture and stir it all up.

Pour this peanut conglomeration over the rice cereal mixture and spread it out evenly, then pop it all in the fridge while you go on to layer three, which is the chocolate fudge.

Put a little more butter, some milk and and some sugar in a medium heavy pot.  Bring to a boil and stir for five minutes (yes, constantly.  It will be worth it.)  Remove it from the heat.

Stir in some marshmallows, some chocolate chips and a little more vanilla until the marshmallows melt. Pour this chocolate scrumptiousness over the peanut butter fudge, spread evenly and place in the fridge to harden. (This will be the longest hour of your life.)

Cut these into 1-inch pieces (or smaller, if you have the strength). Save some in a secret place for yourself!

More tips for making these Peanut butter treats!

Can I use chunky peanut butter?

Technically yes, but I find the smooth peanut butter gives the peanut butter fudge a better texture. But you be you, peanut butter-wise!

What is evaporated milk and where can I find it?

Evaporated milk is milk that has been heated so that more than half of its water volume has, well, evaporated. This gives the remaining milk a more concentrated, creamy texture that is perfect for fudge. You can find it in the baking aisle of your grocery store in cans.

    Have a question that I didn’t cover?

Pop your question in the Comments section below and I will answer pronto!

I think that is all I have to say about this one, except that you need to make them as soon as humanly possible. You only go around once!

This was my introduction to your blog, and, oh, my goodness! I will have to make these next week when both of my (grown) boys come home for a visit. After tasting these treats, I wonder if they will leave my kitcehn to go back to their own homes …
