Ham and Cheese Biscuit Sliders

Jazz up your sandwich by trying this recipe for ham and cheese biscuit sliders that swaps bread for biscuits and adds a sweet slice of apple!

ham cheese and apple biscuit sliders

In my experience, these two things are true:  Every once in a while it is perfectly acceptable to have sandwiches for supper.  And everything tastes better when…

a) you call it a slider and…

b) you make that slider out of a biscuit!

What is a slider?

Aside from my favorite way to eat a burger, a slider basically means a small hamburger – a lot of times you will find them on the appetizer menu in groups of 3 or 4.

Sliders have evolved to mean small version of sandwiches that are usually much bigger (cheesesteak sliders, anyone?). They have all the same ingredients as their bigger cousins, just in teenier adorable slider form.

So one day I decided it was okay to push the slider envelope a little more and ditch the bun for biscuits!

So I grabbed the Bisquick.  If you need biscuits fast without a lot of fuss…Bisquick.  It never lets me down. But if you are in a hurry you can 100% use pre-made biscuits. Or the kind in the pop open can – we know we love them!

On the other hand, if you have an extra minute or two, make my fool proof recipe for butter biscuits!

The Southern husband’s ALL TIME FAVORITE.

Here’s how you make ham and cheese biscuit sliders!

Bake up a batch of Bisquick drop biscuits, and in the meantime round up some thin sliced ham, some cheddar cheese (I love Cabot!) and a green apple.

And your favorite mustard – we had some Stonewall kitchen honey mustard in the fridge, but a nice grainy mustard would be perfect too.

Once the biscuits have cooled off a bit, it’s time to make the sliders.  I like to split the biscuits the same way you split English muffins…by poking them all around with a fork.

That way you get nice nooks and crannies for your mustard, and there is no chance they will break apart while you are slicing them.

Now spread each half with a little mustard, and layer on some apple slices, some ham and some cheese.  Because they are little guys, we are allowed to have two.

Sliders! It’s what’s for dinner.

Yummy! These would be perfect alongside a bowl of potato or tomato soup! We are to get more snow this weekend so this will be a perfect addition to a cozy soup supper. And more hearty than just plain grilled cheese.
